Hi,

Taken last night at Blithfield Reservoir which is a large drinking water reservoir in South Staffordshire, England, owned by South Staffordshire Water.

Some 800 acres (324 hectares) of reservoir was formed on land sold by Baron Bagot to the South Staffordshire Water Works (SSWW) in the 1940s. Blithfield Reservoir was opened by H.M. Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother on Tuesday 27 October 1953.

Yes this is a 50/50 image and not the usual rule of thirds but for me this image works this way.

Take care
Martin

Great shot. Nice lead in lines to that wonderful evening sky. Rules are there to be broken and i agree with you that it works very well on this image.

The composition works - central gives stillness and peacefulness.

Many years back, I had to travel from Stone to Burton for work - we often went this way. When the sun was low, it was the sort of drive that reminds you why people join the forces during a war. Land worth defending.

Excellent pre-narrative, and a somewhat stunning image to support. The light is some startling, so very bright and intense, and the colours in the sky as simply quite memorising, stunning perspectives, and a great point of view to capture it all.

Fantastic sky, Martin. 50/50 is okay, and I can see why, with the rail leading in from the bottom right corner. Personally, though, I think I would have cropped to the base of the first post up. The balance is better, and does the road that has been cropped add to the image which is all about the sky?
Top image, whichever, Martin.
