The old boiler at the mine, and made in the day of joining the steel with rivets.
It goes without saying that it had to be secure and watertight.
But today,it will probably have more leaks in it than WikiLeaks had !!

I doubt it Mike, well not around the rivets anyway, they're hand made compressed air hammered in and would outlast most of us I reckon.....

Given her age the old boiler is standing up quite well, though I have serious doubts about how she would perform under pressure.
Still, no point getting too stressed - she makes for riveting viewing as it is Smile
We met one of her relatives at Beamish recently; you might call her Great Gertie. I'll post a photo of her one day.
Love the pattern of the rivets here, Mick: a big smiling mouth but no nose!
Regards
Bill

This isn't just rust. This is rust caught in fanTAStic light. Niiice.

And the smile in it looks like that smile in the Peugeot 407's mug! Although the latter just looks weird.

Forgot to mention earlier...it's not just the feather duster which got packed. Also glasses and a bossy disposition.

Great Mick great, there's an art to it, when you see those men in the old days throwing the red hot rivetts about, have to admire them, they got the blame for the Titanic's fall but i think it was an overweight necklace Wink

Never done riveting myself but watched, as an apprentice ,some men repairing a riveted hull throwing and catching white hot rivets smooth as you like ,good skilled men using ironman pneumatic hammers .
