The famous Albert Dock on a cloudy day with a sun burst in the right place. Digitally enhanced in Photoshop CS to improve the mood and atmosphere. This is a moment I savioured - being in the right place at the right time !

Cheers Stevie. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and visualized the scene unfolding before me. I guess I am lucky enough to be in a city with such photogenic buildings of historical importance.

I like this, good composition & the PS mods work IMHO.

Alcatraz anyone? Looks good. A little grainy for my liking, but thats just my opinion. Well done.

The whole idea was to create a grainy and timeless feel to the picture. I was more interested in creating an image that portrayed what the Albert Dock looked like in the olden days.

Very moody you have done a good job here and yes i think you have captured the atmosphere of days gone by,i see you are in to landscapes, perhaps we can meet up some day i live in Cheshire, not to far away.

Hi Andy, I will hold you to that so we can swap tips. Cheers for the input, much appreciated. I am well into landscapes as I believe they are the heart and soul of human history and nature. I visit Chester most times, but have yet to photograph anything there. Does Chester have a catherdral? I am sure I saw one a few years back.

Chester does have a Cathedral, and there are plenty of us in the North West who are within it's reaches - perhaps it should be the centre of another ePz meet in the near future, or perhaps the Albert Dock is a good starting point.

I like what you have done here Mike, it's like a picture from times gone by, when it was a fully trading dock etc... 'click'

That is good as I was quite confident Chester had a cathedral. I think the last time I did there was building works going on so I could not take a photo with my old pentax box. However, I am going to try and get myself and my Canon EOS 30 up to Chester and get snapping!

Good idea about a future meeting in the Albert Dock or Chester. Both very good places for a meeting, but I'd probably go for the Albert Dock with a suitable venue called the Pumphouse Inn. Whether I am able to attend is another matter!

Great work Mike. Good composition for this, not the usual angle you see it from.
Like the grain effect aswell.
Good one.
Chester has quite a lot to offer in terms of photography. There are a lot of good views from the walls. I keep meaning to do a trip round but never seem to get enough time.
I like this well done.
cheers

Cheers Phil. I got lucky with this image as I happened to be walking along the Strand toward the Pier Head. I just turned around and saw the sun behind the chimney stack and quickly got me camera out before the sun vanished!

I am gonna try and get myself up to Chester within the next few weeks and look for some good photo opportunities. Hopefully I will find some good photos.

Really like this picture. I work not far from where this was taken and I've got quite a few shots taken around the area, some similar to this in composition, but not with such spectacular lighting. Nice one.

Cheers Eric!
I am just getting to grips with Photoshop CS, which was used to enhance the shadows and highlights as the original scanned negative was underexposed due to the bright sky and sun reflecting off the water in the dock.
I welcome more comments to help me improve.
I am planning to upload more different images in the next few days so more comments are welcome.
Cheers again guys!

Like this Mike. Unusual viewpoint on the dock and lovely framing of the subject. I should know I work round the corner from the dock! Can often be found in the Pumphouse having a tipple.

Nice one David!

Glad you like it and I agree it is an unusual viewpoint, but it does capture the entire dock in its splendour Smile

I have been into photography for a few year now, but only recently got seriously involved after giving up another expensive hobby - golf !!

Shame about the "halo" effect around the left side roofline, presumably caused by burning in the sky.
