Snow Seat

Thanks very much for all the votes. I assume this comment is complimentary. But what does "limpidity" mean?

Bamburgh Castle 2 by MiqsPix

Bamburgh Castle 2

Quote: Far from the classical images of Bamburgh, but quite effective. Not sure it would sell though, not that that was necessarily your attention. I have many images of the castle, almost all classic views but in very different lighting. The ones that sell in the libraries are mostly shot in evening light from the beach to the north with the castle both frame filling and also quite small.

So, nice to see a different viewpoint and you have done it well at first sight. The focus is on the grass very close to the camera and I think this was the right choice but would need to see the other extreme to coompare.

Paul

Thanks for the comments. It was never my intention to take the "normal" shot of this as I agree there are many taken with sunsets from the beach. I intentionally took this on the dunes as I wanted to include the grasses to give the foreground texture and create a slightly different viewing aspect.

Quote: I like this picture, there are lots of ways this could be edited.

Composition - I would have taken the picture slightly to the left so the grass doesn't cover the right hand side of the castle. Also would have had the bank at one third high in the picture, this would have exposed more of the castle.

Editing - The back lit castle would have been sharpened up and throw a bit of fill light in there to bring the detail out of them castle walls. Gradient filter on the sky with a bit of dodge and burn.

Gareth

There has been editing already along the lines you suggest but care must be taken not to over edit! If you feel you can improve the shot then please apply mods and post it and we can judge.

Ampthill Country Park by MiqsPix

Ampthill Country Park

Thanks for all your comments. It proved rather challenging with the sun very low in the sky. Yes a tad underexposed I agree but many of my landscape shots of mine are this way because I think you retain more colour depth, and you can always lighten in post processing. As far as the -2/3 is concerned I bracketed 3 shots 2/3 stop apart and I liked this most. The sharpening I agree needed a little more. It was only after posting I realised I had not checked the "sharpen for screen" option in Lightroom when exporting to JPEG. I also used the hyperfocal technique of which I am a fan and manually focussed at approx 10ft as I remember. Having said all that I do like your mod better than my original. Damn! Sad

Shadows across Djemma El Fna square, Marrakech by MiqsPix

Shadows across Djemma El Fna square, Marrakech

Thanks for the comments. I agonised for some time before posting this image. Firstly I would have liked to eliminate the distorted vans that in my view spoil the shot. Unfortunately I couldn't wait any longer for them to move, and as the light was changing I had to compose take the shot. I also thought about either cropping off some foreground (to remove the vans) or alternatively cropping off sky, to make a third, but decided against as I liked both the night sky and the elongated shadows too much to lose. You might disagree. Smile

Honey Bee at Work! by MiqsPix

Honey Bee at Work!

Thanks for the comments. I had a look at the mod and agree that the revised crop arguably improves the composition. However as far as the colour is concerned I prefer the original as in my view it shows the full beauty of the flower. I didn't increase the vibrance by much and saturation was untouched as I remember. The wings were the only edits in CS being improved with a little dodging and burning, as I only wanted parts of the wings strengthened to keep the semi transparent aspect of them.

Thanks again,
Roger

Thanks very much to all for the kind comments. I guess in this instance I was lucky. To be fair it was my wife who spotted it outside so I have to give her credit. Wink

Perfect Calm by MiqsPix

Perfect Calm

Thanks. I have had a look at your mods but I am undecided. I can appreciate the panoramic aspect works but the colour seems to have changed too much for me. To me the sky now looks a little greenish and the colour contrast in the sky and water is not so vivid - on my screen! Thanks anyway. Smile
