No! Only the older hydrants that have not been replaced will do that. The newer hydrants have the shut off well below the ground so when it is boken off the valve is shut and there is no "spray" of water. You can see in the pic, the black area at the bottom of the hydrant is a break away, so when it's hit the water will not spew. How do I know this? I used to sale them at a waterworks supply.
