It's the very rare Bullfighting Moth! You don't ever want to come face to face with one of these guys, especially in the dark!

In actual fact it's a "67" image stack of a very small Treble Lines moth, which is only about 20mm long in total, but it has the look of a raging bull.......Almost

Moth was cooled in the fridge before taking the images so as to help keep it still for the length on time needed and was released back into the wild alive and unharmed once shooting had finished.

Had this one in last months "EPZ Nature Competition" but as usual it came nowhere Sad

Makes me itch when I look at it (not the worlds biggest fan of moths!) but this looks like a real beasty.

A fantastic close up of this fiercesome looking little critter, he looks absolutely enraged at being photographed! The detail is awesome as always. Raging Bull is most apt, I've seen this expression on your face a couple of times before Ade, once when some annoying twitchers disturbed your peace and quiet at Slimbridge back in March and also when you made your infamous appearance on the series "Teachers" on television a few years back!!!WinkGrin

Superb detail and excellent stacking. I like the crop to get it in on the face but would have liked to have seen a little more light on the eyes to show them off more Ade as th eviewer is drawn into them. Did you get any with a little fill in light with a reflector or flash.

It's been lifted as much as I dared using the shadow tool Rich, I think the real problem was the Flash was slightly overhead of the subject......I should have used another strobe as you say just to add a bit fill in. But the trouble with this kind of work is you only get one chance, I'm surprised I got away with as many shots for the stack as I did......Never mind. But thanks for your feedback, it's a very valid point, I'll keep an eye out for it on any similar images I work on in the future.....

Thanks for everyone else's kind comments too......

Without reading your write up (or title), that's the sort of thing that was going through my mind! The close up shots make them look so chunky and robust, instead of the gentle delicate creatures they are!

A brilliant piece of photography.

The amount of detail you get in your photos of "critters" is remarkable, to think this is only 20 mm, it makes you realise that there is a world you would never see if not for photostacking! What are the sharp looking things on the front legs ? Really well done.
