Ariel Atom

Ariel Atom by Philo

Hi Phil,

You have captured the 'Atom' very well and the blurred car shape behind it works very well in giving a sense of the speed of the two cars.
I think the image could be improved by cropping out the sky, so that the eye stays on the cars.

Hi Alison, epz is a poorer place without your regular image uploads (what happened to your excellent SPs?)
If you explain the severity of the problem to your boss, I am sure you will be given plenty of time to take more images!
BTW this is a beautiful IR image Smile

Pillers of Strength

Pillers of Strength by elmeriv

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to epz Smile
You have chosen a good vantage point to take this image of the Orwell bridge. I like the monochrome conversion as well.
Two points that IMHO could make the image stronger: 1. The verticals are converging which doesn't look right, the pillars near the back look like they are falling over.
2. The sun is to big/bright in the image and takes the eye from the main focus, the bridge. Try cloning out the sun to see if it improves the composition.
I hope this has been of help.

Street Portraiture

Street Portraiture by ladigit

Hi Tracy,
What a wonderful image of this girl.Smile You have got great eye contact with the subject and a lovely natural smile.
The background is not too distracting and well out of focus.
How could you improve the image? Apart from a bit more space above her heard, two points that would improve the image IMHO.
1. A crop to the left of the image would remove the distracting highlight at the top and would also improve the composition, moving the girl more to the left and having all the negative space on the right.
2. The hard shadow made by her nose, is also distracting. This could be corrected by using a reflector to "fill in" and soften the shadow, or you could take a couple of steps to the right so that the sun is lighting your subject more evenly, and then getting the girl to look at you.
I hope this helps,
Tim

Hi Roger,
An excellent image, well seen, I like the muted colours in the background, which help make Kristina stand out, or in this case leap out from the background!

Hi John,
A great idea, well taken. Would the "selfie" be improved by seeing your eyes in the rear view mirror?

Hi,
You have got plenty of distance from your subject to the background to achieve great bokeh, but you need a different lens to make it work. As mentioned by Nathan a 70-200mm f2.8L lens will give great results but is expensive. As you are using a F/F camera you should try a 85mm f1.4 lens which is a lot cheaper than the zoom lens but is perfect for portrait photography.
Your image would be stronger if you cropped the R/H side to the metal rail, and cropped the bottom of the image up to the top of the rail. This would help with the composition of the image.

Who Am I ?

Who Am I ? by SteveMoulding

Hi Steve,
I think it might be a Curlew, which is similar to a Whimbrel but has a longer bill.
A Whimbrel also has a striped crown and a marked eyebrow which "who am I" does not have! lol.
