Prudhoe Community High School's A Level results morning last week. Lots of happy shiny faces here – mostly students but a few staff in there as well.
I love these occasions – this is when you see that there is some justice in life, it's when the ones who work hard actually do get rewarded.
I have taken over Bill's old Sigma flash gun, this was my first serious outing with it. I really don't like using flash, and I don't like the weight of the gun, but I'm quite pleased with the results.
I have the Head's permission to upload these. This is the tentative start of our New Big Project. The school has been allocated funding for a complete rebuild, we will be documenting the last year in the old premises. We have no idea when that year starts though.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Thanks early birds. I like V2 (two students and a teacher - as with policemen, teachers seem to get younger and younger... ) Another teacher called them and they turned round.
I didn't lead with that one because someone might spot how much work has been done on the lass on the left to retrieve some detail - the light was incredibly harsh.
Moira
Great moments of happiness and pride captured in those images!
JNC
Happy bunnies indeed, so good to see, and well captured
John
It's a real pleasure viewing these - as you say it's fantastic to see the hard work rewarded and with the possible exception of the lad in V8 (who may be acting up) it certainly looks as if the news was good all around.
There's a real vitality and sheer joy in these.
I wish all involved the best of luck in their futures.
A good set of photos. Great to read you have permission to take and upload photos. It's such a shame that photographers, especially parents, are being restricted from this kind of photography that documents an important life stage. My friend from school died last week and I never took a camera to school so have no early photos - just faded memories of that period of life.
So well timed, so perfectly captured and so professional - an experienced press photographer would be proud of these Moira. I think they are all outstanding and you have really captured the occasion.
kind regards,
Robin
Thanks everyone.
Pete - I'm so sorry to hear about your school friend, and I agree that it's sad if anyone doesn't have visual reminders of childhood. I often think how amazing it is that out of thousands of years of human civilization it's only the last few generations that have been able to keep memories alive like this.
I always ask first, and I'm CRB checked at the High School. But we are lucky in that we live in a relatively sane, level-headed community. As you may know I photograph a lot of community events - I have only once had a mother refuse permission for me to include her child in a photograph and she was very polite about it! I visit the First and Middle schools quite often (we have a three-tier system in Northumberland), for the local In Bloom group, and they are always very happy to cooperate.

What wonderful expressions - some very natural reactions to their news- I'm glad you have uploaded a mixture as this year there will have been a lot of dissappointments as well as delights
I'm so envious of you being able to upload these ![]()
Wishing you well with the new project ![]()
Helen
They certainly look a happy bunch!
A great set of candids, Moira ![]()

Great set of images and wonderful to hear that at least one region of our UK has shown some sense. Dreams are made and saved by photographers and ordinary people taking images of each other, and lets hope all these do gooders learn a lesson. I'm glad that you of all people are on the trusted list Moira, a little privilege that I know you would never misuse.

MTS that No 8 is an absolute cracker.
A great set of candids capturing pure emotion.
V1 is probably my favourite.
Andy
A great start to the New Big Project, Moira, tentative or otherwise
What a great series of captures of joy! All the best to these happy bunnies ![]()
I hate using flash too. I tend to use it now if and when I photograph butterflies and there's not enough good sunlight.
Andrew
PS To Pete: *so sorry to hear about your friend*
This is a great set Moira, but V2 is my kinda shot ![]()

A brilliantly captured series that illustrates a key milestone in these young people's lives. Pete makes such an important point here, such events really should be recorded visually. I have hardly any photographs from my childhood and youth which is a shame. .
All excellent but I particularly like the bright, sparkling eyes in V3 and the somewhat ponderous expressions of her male companions.
I do hope that these will be made available to the young people featured here so that they can revisit these moments in the future.
Lynn, I've sent the Head a link to this upload, plus some of our pictures are on the school website here. Wait for the picture at the top to move on...
Moira
I think the turning up and squealing makes for good tv pictures and hence publicity.
I hope it stays like this!
Great pictures Moira, really capture the excitement.
Can't help having a slight leaning towards V2, but I expect most of the men will!
Your new project sounds exciting!
Tony
A very bright uplifting and joyful set Moira, all very colourful and full of cheer.
