Well, a lot of people liked the lady in the hat in yesterday's orchestra upload; so I hunted out a picture of Isobel at work conducting the children's choir at the concert. I uploaded a b&w version as V2 yesterday, decided I rather liked it and worked on it a bit more for today.
Isobel is a really lovely lady. She suffered a severe head injury, burns I think, as a child, and is never seen without her hat – it's very much her trademark now.
And in reply to Malc's comment yesterday, yes, check shirts are the choir 'uniform', along with caps for the boys.
By the way, these are the children who have appeared in my last couple of uploads looking a bit fidgety and bored. The concert was due to start at 8pm, but actually started after 8.30 because the official dinner beforehand over-ran. (This is France... ) The picture was taken at 11.32pm French time. The concert was far from over... I think they behaved pretty well.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

interaction between the choir master and the children is apparent and the intent look on the children's faces a picture worth noting![]()
Even better with the background tidied up, Moira
A wonderful candid ![]()
Trev ![]()
Well spotted Trev, the concert was in a large gymnasium, with a lot of messy roof structure visible. Bits of it were growing out of Isobel's mouth...
Thanks everyone.. I have a couple more pictures to come from the town-twinning visit, then it's back to Britain.

Quote: like the title on the music sheet...Pot Pourri...aptly sums up the outfits
Pot Pourri means literally "stinking pot".
Great expressions on the faces of "les enfants". I'm sure The Wurzels used to wear hats like Isobels, has she taught them to sing "I've got a brand new combine harvester" by any chance? ![]()

I remember the local Am Dram group in our twin town once staged a sketch about two English ladies trying to explain pot pourri...
Thanks again, folks.
Moira
How many people must wonder when they are gifted the said "stinking pot" as a gift? The two kids in particular are paying good attention to Isobel and they all did well waiting for three hours to perform.

Glad you gave this one it's rightful place as V1 Moira, a really great shot.

good comp and nice tone like the person conductor filling the image
'Uniform' not uniform, Jennn. This is the nearest to a uniform that you'll find French kids in!
Cheers everyone,
Moira
Glad to see this image getting its turn in the limelight, love the interaction between the choir mistress and the children
