As some of you will know, Mrs.Salty and myself were in Paris last week. What you won't know is that we had a lot of tips and advice on alternative things to do and see whilst there provided most generously by the woolybills - Moira & Bill.
Mrs. S and I have been to Paris on numerous occasions (indeed, I lived there for about 18 months as a young and very fancy-free 20/21 yo)), but we had never been there together, so we were keen to experience something different, away from the typical tourist trails.
One of the most fascinating place we were advised to consider was the cemetery Pére Lachaise. The cemetery is "home" to many a famous person, including Maria Callas, Chopin, Auguste Comte, Marcel Proust, Molière, and a certain lead singer of The Doors.
I felt the images from there lend themselves perfectly to b&w, I hope you agree. (Albeit the final version is in colour - but you noticed that, n'est pas?)

Direct eye contact...
A superb set, leading with the star turn. V1 contains so much of the appeal of the place - the symbolism, the memories, the living residents. All the Parisian cemeteries have their cats.
I like the low pov you have used in V5 - must remember that when next time there.
And V6 has us searching our brains and Google, I think the bronze palm leaf has a military significance, Bill thinks it denotes an academician. Still working on that one...
By the way, I thought for a moment V1 was Piaf's grave but checking back in my files it's definitely not as she has an urn immediately above the crucifix.
I hope we are in for a long series!

After a bit of research (I just love saying that for Google and Wikipedia...) the bronze palm leaf is a symbol of both the French and Belgian Croix de Guerre. I thought I had seen it on military graves. For the French military it apparently distinguishes an army citation for the award but I'm not sure of the significance of that.

Brilliant series. I'm a colour freak and V6 really does it for me.
V6 is quite superb Malcolm and most of the others are as well. My eye is captivated by the wonderful vision of the cat and the crucifix. (no un intended I assure you all) it's a one off and will never be duplicated. Great find and a great tribute to your trigger finger to catch this feline candid shot.

Superb quality from that point and shoot toy you've got. I'm not sure I could choose a favourite they all are very well captured and have their own merits. I liked the comment from Ann about lying amongst the gravestones... I got caught lying flat out on a country church floor a few days ago!!!

A wonderful set of Images Malc. You must have a lot if you can afford to put 6 up in one Day.
Last time I visited a cemetery the undertaker lead the coffin and people 4 times around the whole area. I asked Why and was informed it was a new funeral director and he had lost the plot...

v1 is a superb mono shot - a super set - glad v6 is in colour though

Although I like black and white photography I would say the last photo, the colour one, is the most Thoughtful. The blend of the green leaves and the brown ones, life and death. And the stonework imitating nature... "Everything you see around you is a product of an eruption or death" D. Liantinis
Walking in cemeteries is not fun, I rememer once I had found one near work, during a break. Life is so short, I saw tombs of children as young as three years old, I saw tombs, forgotten by relatives and friends. Life can be very short or very long. Happy or tiring. most of the times both. But may we rest in peace. Au revoir.
A very beautiful, yet extremely thought evoking and if I may say so, a rather 'tactile' set of images, which is enhanced greatly with the use of the monochrome processing. Two images instantly leaped out as if they were trying to get a message across, firstly image number III. A very sorrowful expression, and what looks like tears running down his face adds to that feeling further. And photograph number IV, a solemn pathway leading into darkness....

This was a place I regret not visiting on the occasions I've been to Paris, it seems to offer many opportunities for some good shots, and you've got some good 'uns here, Malc

V1. is a very striking image the eyes of the cat are fixed as if hypnotised, V3. is also startling as if the stone figure is crying! very impressive! if I had not just given my award to Nathan you to would have got another!, still looks like I will have future opportunities looking at your portfolio, regards Leon. favourite this.
