I believe that this cross comemorates two members of the same family that died in WWII. This image was shot in Germany.
I took 2 shots, 1 exposure for the sky and 1 for the cross and merged them. I think the result is OK. Please feel free to leave any comments.

Personally, I'd like this to be just a bit lighter. Perhaps a job for shadows/highlights?
Also, I'm not sure what's happened to the area directly to the right of the cross.
Apart from that, it's a strong and thought provoking image. The cross is well placed in the frame and the shadows on its face give a real feeling of depth.
I rather like it.
Hope this helps.
Bren.
The idea and composition is fine, and I assume you are going for the dark look to suite. However, the cross could do to be a bit lighter to show more detail and I'm not sure it's fully sharp. If you didn't use a support, 1/40 sec is too long a shutter speed and you have some movement blur.
I think I might have under exposed for ambient and fired a burst of flash for the cross?
