I love these glistening beauties and you have captured the iridescence perfectly. Lovely composition too.

They are much maligned but as you have impressively shown here they are a very handsome bird.

Very handsome. Smile
I seem to have a new set of juveniles visiting - at this late date. I'm obviously feeding them too much.

I love the upright, open-legged stance, Julia, and the way the "perch" branches outwards in echo to the feet. The metallic iridescent sheen is beautifully captured, and also a catchlight in the eye. Such wonderful detail, perfect background, and fine composition.

What I haven't noticed before is the colouring of the starling's beak, so I did a bit of research, and discovered that the colour of the base of its yellow beak can identify the sexes in summer, pink for females, blue for males, and that they are dark grey-brown in winter. So it appears that they have summer and winter phases. Someone who seemed to be an expert also said to take into account the possibility of the influence of food items in beak colour. I've learnt something todayGrin .
