Taken as the sun rose over Venice lagoon Oct 2010. I like the bird on top of the ball and the streak of the jet airplane trail in the sky.

yep, ive been there and its quite a memorable sight,
i had a peek in your pf and there are some interesting shots but they are not picking up as many clicks as they deserve.
im going to be totally honest in saying i dont think that is one of the better ones.
from a sunset/rise point of view, the sky is not really interesting, its pretty plain without clouds to add colourful interest. in fact sometimes the best of the sunset comes around 15 mins before rising or after it sinks below the horizon. the sunball is a little fierce and the exposure looks to have been made hand held at a fairly wide aperature which is not the best option. much better on a tripod with f16, the result is a fairly shallow depth of field and less control on the sunball flare. overall the image is a little dark but the brightness of the sun is dictating the point at which it will blow out, hense the beauty of shooting before rising orafter setting, the dynamic range is reduced enormously.
compositionally the horizon has been placed rather central which divides interest and the water marker is merging with the land mass. its also too far into the frame but with this lens and no way to move position i guess you are stuck with that. also you may wish to check the horizon which is sloping down to the right.
sorry i cant be more positive but it is afterall a wonderful city with many marvelous viewpoints.
Phil
