A wood ant tends to a 'herd' of black aphids. The reward is a sweet honey exudate that is highly attractive to the ants. In return,the ant offers protection from predators such as ladybirds. This is a perfect example of symbiosis.

Excellent macro image with lots of good detail. I get these on my willow tree every year and they're fascinating to watch!
