An explanation of yesterday’s upload. I’ve been fascinated by this little memorial since I saw Rende’s pictures of it a while ago, and desperately wanted to see it for myself. We visited the cemetery in early evening, with the most beautiful low sunlight filtering through the trees. I was nonplussed at first as to how to approach the subject as our host has made it very much his own. I hope I have done it justice.
A farmer died tragically in an accident. His family commissioned this little sculpture for his grave - the whole family are cut out in silhouette from a steel disc, and rise up together in a circle (yesterday’s upload was one of the empty outlines left in the base).
Reunited in dance? Giving praise? Reaching towards the light? (V1 is the shadowy side, V2 the sunlit side - look at the difference!) The doctrine of the resurrection of the body? Positive rising above negative? You decide.
Tomorrow, some different graveside uploads.
Thanks for looking,
