NutHatch. ( Sitta europaea ) Length 14cm.
Recognised by rounded, short- tailed appearance and habit of descending tree trunks head downwards, a trait unique in Britain to this species. Has blue grey upperparts, black eyestripe, with white cheeks and a orange buff underparts.Chisel like bill use to prise insects from tree bark and to open acorns and nuts. A woodland species common in wales and southern England. Nest in tree holes often plastering the entrance with mud to reduce the size.

To get an frame filling image of a bird this size with a 300mm lens alone deserves praise.
