...Whistling the death march whilst uploading, a Saturday, mono, abstract, Panoramic this is bound to sink faster than the titanic.
This is an image i've enjoyed producing, it's so far out of my comfort zone ... I'm not just in left field but out of the stadium.
I have always enjoyed quality still life's, after seeing years ago the work of Bob Carlos Clarke in one of the photo magazines. Whilst most will associate him with his stark erotic nudes, I was equally drawn to his still lifes, he produced from finds along the banks of the Thames. I still rate Bob Carlos Clarke as one of the photographers I most admire, a dark twisted genius, sadly no longer with us.
On to todays image, I found this old box / container, far from pristine - perfect. Into it with the help of Janet (Chase) I added finds from Grosmonts breaking yard, what I love is the textures it has produced.
Credits:
Artistic Director - Janet Walters (not exactly the words Les used to describe her)
Other artistic input, Alley, Maddie & Mr Henson, although I drew the line at including a lightbulb and birds nest
I've included a "grunged" colour version and a standard colour version. I would like in particular feedback on the grunged colour version, too much, not enough ?
Right I've got the London /Brighton bike ride to prepare for in 2 weeks time, so off on a practice run, wish me luck.

A fascinating assortment of bits and bobs and well presented in the sectioned container: so much to look at and ponder what many of them could have been. T!he detail is excellent and the textures of the items nicely preserved. Given the nature of the artefacts, I think V 2 with the more muted colours works best.
Ronnie.
Been waiting to see the results if this one Nick, well worth the effort of collecting and arranging all the bits & pieces. The mono works well, and I prefer V2 to V3 which is a bit too saturated for my liking - the rust is a too orange.
Martin
PS - wise moveto leave out the light bulbs!
Hi Nick, I really like this and certainly no need for the death march! I do find weekends very quiet here on epz though!
I think the 'bits and bobs' look good, full of texture (must seek out the Bob Carlos Clarke ones though) I have also seen these done very well with personal objects, almost like a life memories display. Very different, but in a way more meaningful?
Overall, I like what you've done, and think I like the b/w best!
Tony
The vote's for V2, the hints of colour give the items individuality, character, they involve me more.

So its finally uploaded!
I like V2 the best Nick...and I feel a texture layer coming over!
No doubt AF Artistic Director will be along shortly.
That Martin is a bit cheeky also....about my AF lightbulbs! ![]()

Hope that's not me again in trouble with Janet, about time you had some verbals Nick, after all it was your still life.
Was this after the first set collapsed with Janet's fiddling about. See your in trouble leaving the lightbulbs out, bad move that Nick, I'll go for V2

Great work Nick, I like it a lot. For me the mono works best but I do like the 'grunged' look too, I'd maybe have desaturated it a touch more???
Darren.

I bet one or two of Mr Clarke's bit the dust before he was happy with 'em...just a case of natural re-arrangement Les,totally intended
..yes,you are in trouble...again !!
I like the title..excellent choice & don't think you are getting away with not being in trouble Nick......you are, everthing comes to he who waits ! .......everything !!
The odd lightbulb would have gone well here, but Mrs Catz had them all in some kind of shopping basket if I remember together with plenty of....ermmm..unmentionables ![]()
My choice would be V2 Nick,I like the desaturated look to it,a close second in the mono but I reckon that could do with a bit more of a grungy/mucky feel to it tbh.
Looks good on the black bg & I especially like that blue twine.Fab mix of textures.
Some neat bits & bobs there, great to see evryone helping to find them strewn across the yard too.
Right, recuperated a bit. I should have stressed more my appreciation to all on the course for their help with this, particularly Janet for the encouragement to give it a go . Tho I will leave it in future to those who do this regularly.
Janet yes it probably needs more grunge / texture, and I should have had more conviction as #2 is my favourite.
Les - I'm sure Janet will get me back at some stage
at least I've left some of the candids on the hard drive ....... For now
Great collection of bits & bobs, Nick! Very nicely captured and processed, too. V2's my fave ![]()

I think this is a successful photo and I like the found still-life concept. I used it too in my paintings, they seem more natural and less contrived than trying to set it up from scratch. The mono treatment works well although the colour shot is excellent.
Alan.
