So in the wasted talent thread running currently I get criticised for giving awards to mono versions of colour pics...and here's another!
All the critique does is makes it more agonising over choosing the pics as I have all these extra thoughts buzzing around in my head, but I will not stop awarding pics because people don't like how I do it. And this is one such example. You're not a friend and we've never met, you're not on an special favourites list, I've not received cash from you - you've just posted what I feel is an excellent photo, and one that's been posted before in colour that got a HC. Keep them coming. Have a good New Year ![]()
What do I like about it. Well textures is something I like if used well. Collages I like if blended well. My love of Dali makes clocks "box ticking" objects to include. And high quality processing, especially when it comes to black & white which have to work harder. That, along side balance, of composition and sharpness (where necessary) make this shot achieve the award.

Well where do I start, thanks to Wolfy for the Guest editors award.
Pete - a massive thanks, this to me means the most in terms of the awards as it took heart & soul to put it together - and not just learning new skills.
The comment on Dali made me smile - I've been a big fan of Dali's work, and have a very large print hanging in the living room at home - its probably where the inspiration came for the watch.
I've been following the forum thread with interest, and yes this is a Black and White version of a HC earlier in the year, but there is a but it is a different layout, one of the reasons why I uploaded a mono, the other been anyone that has seen my "conventional" work will know my main passion is Black and White, so I felt it tied in better - for me and what I was trying to portray.
It also goes to show what is excellent about EPZ, and your peers who you look upto, I was helped immensly in this project by 4 people in particular, both in putting together the original and in their excellent constructive critisism of the original.
So thank you again and have a great New Year
and I hope EPZ continues to go from strength to strength, which I'm sure it will.
The background is a lot more subtle in this rework Nick .... the individual elements are more harmonious. Suits the contrasty BW conversion too .... much more impact, especially the face. Congrats on the EC. Got to agree with you that this has been a bitch of a year though, so roll on 2011 and better luck all round.
Thanks Janet, William, Richard, Dave & Les.
Big thanks for the UA Les and yes Dave lets hope for a better 2011, and most of all thanks for your support - the original Critique helped me a lot, and I would be mad not to listen to the Master in terms of DM. Have a great year too.
Nick, your mono work is something I aspire to and this is an exceptional example which is worthy of the awards. Congratulations and all the best for 2011.
Darren.
First class work and well rewarded. Well done to Pete too for flying into the face of all the criticism. Have a good 2011... Dave
Wonderful work! Thanks for share.
Happy New Year to You and Yours.
Dito
