One of the huge Poppies that grow happily in my garden.
I have wanted to photograph one of them for a while but I needed to do something different....where this came from I don't know but here it is...a Poppy with a difference Wink
I started with the Poppy in the glass bottle, but it all collapsed & the bottle tried to escape...water everywhere !! I mopped most of the water up but decided to leave the bottle.

Lit with a couple of small light boxes against a light bg.
Dropped on a few textured layers in photoshop.

Work in progress I think here,I feel something is missing but don't know what...suggestions gratefully accepted.

Thanks for taking the time to look/comment.

I love this, it's a great composition and I love the 'caged' poppy which works very well, personally I don't think it actually needs the bottle, but I do like the open cage door - beautifully done!

Jenni, you may be right, perhaps rather than me thinking something is missing there is one element too much !

I don't agree with the need to reduce the elements in this shot. There is a mysterious story going on here that is intriguing. I like this one as it is. I can't think of anything to improve it.

Love this - so clever and original - the open door especially makes it for me - very mysterious.

Thats a great poppy Janet - I think in a bottle would have been good.(without running water).Smile
To add or omit - a conundrum. I like the butterfly decor on the cage - perhaps a large coloured real one inside may work.

A lovely whimsical image. I especially like the colours
warm and cool, then brought together with the texture.
Top marks for originality.

I do hope I'm reading too much into this Janet, bottle (empty !!) unstoppered, out of the cage ...and a very dominant red poppy (or does the poppy signify hope, the first thing to regrow ?)

As for the aesthetics, I'm not keen on bottom right hand corner - it draws the eye out of the frame. And if it is symbolism your after, wouldn't the stopper suffice?

All that aside, I still like the image. Why? well it made me stop and think, not just a still lif but an image with depth, meaning and for that I will give it my UA, which despite been available daily, I only give out once in a blue moon.

Hi Nick, thanks for your coveted UA.
Meanings..... you have most of my inner thoughts correct...the RHS...well...there's the escape into the light but the way is barred ! so,it did it's job in drawing your gaze. The stopper has to be there or else the empty bottle has no significance & just becomes an empty bottle.
There was a real nice blue moon a couple of nights ago Wink
