Thanks Angler 33333. I only drove past the castle once and couldn't remember where it was taken.

This is Eilean Donan Castle near Dornie on the road to Kyle of Lochalsh and the Skye bridge. Quite a distance from Loch Ness......

You don't put it in the critique section. But why bother with voting? Critique is much more use.

Not the standard shot of this castle, and you give us no EXIF to go on, but I assume an auto mode with auto metering. You are just a touch under exposed, but the lighting has not helped, being very flat indeed. A good shot in general, just a tweak on brightness and contrast to add a lift without destroying sky detail.

A very popular choice of subject. Your image is taken in flat light, so you've ended up with a record shot of a nice place you passed through on your travels.
It is difficult to come up with something different as it has been photographed a million times or more. if you don't have the luxury of time to wait or go back again, then this is what you have. given the Scottish weather, probably most of us will get a shot just like this.

However, your composition is sound. Your modification is brighter and more lively, but is oversharpened by a long way as evidenced by the white halo following the skyline.
I'll upload a mod whare I've warmed the colour balance because the original has a cold look (probabaly reminiscent of the day), darkened the sky and created a vignette by darkening the outer edge but boosting the brightness of the castle.
This is a guide as you can likely do better with access to the original full size file.

Hi, Your photo looks a bit bland with no atmosphere to it. Mine has a kind of oil painting story to it, it gives it life.
Thanks.
