Close-up of (I think ??) a Dahlia........the rich colours are true to life, all I've done is added a tiny bit of sharpening...........

Many thanks for your response to 'Loch Leven'....glad you liked it !!....I'm surprised no-one picked up on the 'Epson' in
the EXIF data ?????.....because the shot is a scanned slide via my Epson scanner !!.Grin

Excellent detail and colour. Had it been mine I would have cropped to the square format and trimmed off the black area with the bud, but that's just me.

Beautiful colour, Keith, it would be interesting to see without the bud but then you'd have to clone the leaves. Quite happy as is.

Its a great image as it is but I can see Rays point with a crop off the bottom just above the leaves which will put the main heart of the flower on a third so adds a nice compositional touch.

This would not necessarily make it a better image but a different one.

Having said all that I really like this image. - gary

A superb capture wonderfully pin sharp focusing. If I may though....a white or silver reflector from below may have balanced out the light in the bottom half. Hope you don't mind

Hi Mike.....this was taken out on location, & I don't carry any extra kit with me, other than the camera !....but I take
your point about a reflector......I have got a fold-up one (free with AP magazine a while back), so I'll have to look
into carrying it with me next time, it should fit in a pocket somewhere ??.....thanks for your input !!!.Smile

Keith...about that reflector...go on admit you can't remember where you put it...Wink
I like this as it is, but I can see the case for a crop of just the heart. It reminds me of an artichoke, only more colourful, of course.

Beautifully captured shot of the dahlia, Keith: re. the question posed above, I have to say I find the arrangement and composition within the frame perfectly pleasing just as it is.
Regarding the use of a reflector, I only use such for indoor shots where there is a great disparity in light falling on the bloom (usually from a window to one side) and not outdoors (except on one occasion I can recall) where the interplay of light and shade from sunlight contributes so much to the final appearance.
Ronnie.

Floer portraits are the sort of image everyone thinks they can do but then whenb you see it done well as here, then "everyone" has to have a second think.

Great image well seen and executed Steve
