Near Spey bay, Scottish highlands - bloody cold!!
Beautiful tonal contrasts. It's perhaps not quite how I would have done it, but then it couldn't be, because I didn't do it
See the wind whipping the reeds...
I suspect that Alan is looking at a tighter crop at the top, lose some of the sky. That was my first instinct. But this conveys emptiness. Above us only sky.
Amazing capture and momochrome finish. I like it a lot. Well done
Lovely B/W... inspiration to get down to my local beach, sadly the sea is usually way out and litter strewns the place... brilliant
Great image Phil . i think losing some sky would take away the wildness of the image so its best left : No such a thing as bad weather only bad clothes
I love the composition of this image as you have presented it - the sky is atmospheric and adds to the desolate feel, Superb.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of a slightly different viewpoint, to get a square-on view between the handrails. I'm not usually a slave to symmetry, but I think it may have worked here. Purely personal, as I'm just not all that comfortable with the angle of the left hand rail. And I think the boardwalk would've looked better centrally placed. What do you think, nikonleica?
P.S. And Moira. Tch tch... not 'reeds,' my dear- marram grass.
This is just an asymmetrical view because i was blown bloody sideways as i was taking it in a force 9 gale !! .........quite honestly, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' in an image or a photo...........just a photo that either moves you or does not. I really could not and do not give a monkeys either way. I like it. some other people like it. that's all that matters.....................phil

I do actually like it, Phil, and had intended to simply leave it at that ( I am in complete agreement with what you've said ), as I don't really like all this picking over other people's work. I just felt pressured into having to explain myself!
A great mono image, well captured
Just a P.S. Phil, re the recent brouhaha....
(Forgot to mention)
It does actually say, on your 'welcome' page................. " please critique.."
I know. I ticked that box. Feel free. But do not use my images to criticise other peoples critique, point of view or knowledge of Flora. We are all bigger than that. are we not ?.

Fair enough about the flora. I can sometimes be a bit over-zealous in that way. Regarding criticizing other people's critique or point of view, I didn't. I merely responded to words being suddenly put into my mouth. Words which, had I allowed them to stand, would have given entirely the wrong impression of my feelings about your image. I do not like being misrepresented. Surely you can't object to that. Looking at my original comment, it seems to me quite innocent. Had it been allowed to stand, unmolested, there would have been no problem for any of us.
There is no problem. I personally do not object to any criticism of me, or my images. this is a bloody photographic website, for God's sake. For me, every day, at my work, I deal with situations and real problems that are really literally 'life and death'. This is so absolutely tedious and totally mind numbing. we all love our hobby, we all love our art, but keep it in perspective. i have had enough of this drama. you can say what you like about me.........if someone else says something you do not like, or you have issue with, take it up with them privately, not on my site. I do not want any more sodding discussion of this pointless issue here....................phil
