Enigmatic, expressionless... who knows what they were thinking. Strange to look at people and have no contact with them except through a lense.
Fabulous, David, though I do have to say I'd prefer the white bit on the right side wasn't there. Not much you could do about it in the circumstances, though. I do love the eye contact - just superb!
Funny that, Jim, I love the out of focus bit on the right... for me it adds depth to the shot and feels like we're 'peeping' through at them from outside...
Only an opinion and that, I suppose, is what all this is about.... opin ions.
PS: are you still thinking of coming to Rome this year???
The eye contact is great here.
(Any snow where you are? Just returned to UK from a week at my Tuscan place, had three days completely trapped in the house with half a metre of snow outside the door!)
Hi David - yes we will be coming to Rome (well Civitaveccia really) but unfortunately it is only as part of a cruise. We start off in Venice, where we have hopefully the best part of a day in the city before the cruise departure. Thereafter it's Dubrovnik, Corfu, Athens, Katakolon, Mykonos, Rhodes and finally ending in Civitaveccia. Because of the fact that it's our last stop, I can't imagine that we'll have much time in Rome if any at all, and it's very likely that we won't be able to make contact. However, Rome is very high on our list of cities to visit, and it's extremely likely that we'll do a city break there next year.
PS - from that list of places above I hope to get some good pics!
Really get the feel of mystery from the large image. Great stuff!
David you have captured the atmosphere of the the carnival, excellent street photography.
Excellent, David. I love the ambiguity in your description. Who is being enigmatic - the person in the mask or the man behind the camera?
Andy, thank you... not that it's easy to do 'street' photography in Venice
Ian, thank you also and as to who is being enigmatic... I leave it to you to work out
Steve, just a few flurries in Rome bout otuside in Umbria a fair amount... doesn't stick around for long though...
Oh my - wonderful. The only thing for me is the pink line on the left - everything else just sings Venice and Carnival. The half-seen effect is beautifully done.
There you go Suzi... I'm afraid I've tried to take the red out of that pink line and 'mute' but it doesn't seem to work... so I chose the other route and strengthened it... can't win'em all
I think I agree with Jim about the right hand side, I find it distracting. Apart from that, just wonderful. We're coming up to carnival season here now (Orthodox Easter late on 1st May) but I don't think Cretan carnivals quite compare to Venice! I envy you being there.
I like the blur on the right - adds to the enigma and feeling of mystery.
