No unwilling snail here... she couldn't wait. Little Ludovica off for her first day at school. Moral support was offered by her little dogs, one on a leash and the other in her satchel.
Really good image of a landmark occasion.
What a beautiful shot! Jane
Perfect. Just perfect.
wish my 15 yr old son was as eager to go to school!
Nice shot, wonderful memory.
I know the feeling Lizzie but then again you have to remember this was Ludovica's FIRST day.... the proof of the pudding will be later...
Lovely image - well captured.
Very nice David. Echoes of "The Walk to paradise garden" by W. Eugene Smith from "Time" in regard to framing of the subject and lightsource. My only criticism (and not that I know anything) is that the background to focused, to much DOF. But still a nice shot - would work in B/W. Matt
Bloody hell David, how on earth did you get this shot,
if i could give an award this would be it,
beautiful lighting and composition, and so very emotive,
A real pleasure to view.
oh the memories..brilliant shot
Beautiful capture and lovely framing by the doorway.
nice composition, beautiful shot
Hi Andy.... I was lucky, this is our courtyard and also where Ludovica lives... I was leaving with my camera (as is my wont) and there she was... I admit I ordered her to stay there and not to move while I fiddled around... but this was the result.
I'm sitting having my first coffee of the morning, just enjoying viewing this David.
Lovely sentiment behind this stunning image
very, very nice. I like this shot
This is beautiful and poignant. It really is a moment captured in time. Everything about it is well done. Gives me a lump in my throat just viewing it.
Thank you all for your comments and, as Kate says in the comment above, you've given me a lump in my throat...
This one has really stuck in my mind. I keep coming back for another look - if you check your extra statistics and have lots more views than clicks...that's me!!!
Fantastic. I love the way this tells a story in a picture. Fantastic composition and the exposure is spot on.
It has everything David. I still remember my 1st day at school, nothing as idyllic looking as this, and that's 48 years ago!
I don't have a lump in my throat - I'm a hard woman, lol. It's a lovely shot though, can't go wrong with children and animals. I like the dof, being able to see all those great textures in the far wall and road.
Lydia, there's no way you're a hard woman, you just see through the cynicism involved in posting pictures of children and animals...
Just a fabulous little pic, David. The dark edges simply focus attention on the important part of the pic.
Absolutely enchanting, David. A wonderful, touching image. (Damn those graffiti artists!)
One of those shots that work a lifetime on a personal level and with everyone else for a damn long time too. Deserves as many 'clicks' as any shot I've seen this week.
I still have to keep coming back to take another look.
Oh this is just fantastic David. Apart from the technicalities of being perfectly exposed for the light and shadows, it's a super record of her first day. No doubt you'll look back on this one over the years. (maybe clone out the graffitti though). Paul
bloomin' 'eck !! this is good. brilliant.
Never clone out the graffitti.... it's part of the atmosphere... it's a difficult one that... clean it all up and Rome looks sterile like Disney Land, leave it and mucks everything up... oh dear, decisions, decisions...
A point I suppose. I've never been to Rome (would love to though) so I didn't know there was a lot of graffitti there and it was a feature of the streets. If that is the case then leave it in. Try it both ways and make your own artistic decision. Still a fantastic shot though. PAul
Lovely shot David, excellent balance of light and shadow with little Ludovica standing in the doorway. A perfect way to remember her first day at school.
It was there leave it in.
It was there leave it in,I'm so pleased this one has made thirty,so well deserved.
This image says it all. Make sure you have one for her in her later years. Our granddaughter is 5, and it's her first year at school. I videotaped her first Christmas concert this winter and happened to put it on a tape containing Christmas when she was 2. She was thrilled to see herself, and hear herself when she was that age.
Hey, hang on everyone... the idea seems to be gaining ground that little Ludovica is mine... now I live in Rome where people tend to have warmer tempers than Brits like myself and if her Father (who lives on the other side of the courtyard) even gets the whiff on idea that I may have been involved in the begetting of his daughter then it's curtains for me. I just happened to be going out with my camera as the scene took place. Honest. Anything else is nothing to do with me... please, please believe me...
Lovely shot - so evocative!
So let her parents have a copy of the shot. They'll love it I'm sure. Paul
They already have a copy printed A3 size, framed and hanging on the living room wall... d'you think I'm stupid or wot???!!!
Good move David... Paul
superb portfolio-I love your vision
Definitely a renaissance man... wake up every morning and start all over again...
Che bellissima bambina! Beautiful moment, very nicely photographed.
Superb image. Larger pic looks fab. Nicely worked.
Hello David, I went through your portfollio today and must admit that this is one of the finest I have seen...your web site shows so many beautiful shots which humbles me into reasoning that my learning curve is still very steep...this is so well balanced in colour brightness and shadow that it projects an artistic eye which is manifest in this shot and others of your work. Very impressive.
Mny thanks Doug for your kind words....
Brilliant. Terrific light and detail. Click. Kevin.
great image. Good colours and cute little dogs. Story complements the image. click
