The New Mill Chimney is a copy of the campanile of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari in Venice, a gesture that took the Victorian Italianate architecture of Saltaire to a new level.
The Santa maria Gloriosa dei Frari (St. Mary of the Friars), is one of the greatest churches of Venice. It stands on the Campo dei Frari at the heart of the San Polo district of the city. The church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and is notable for its many masterpieces of Venetian Renaissance art and monuments to Renaissance sculptors and artists.
The campanile, is the 2nd tallest in the city after that of San Marco and was completed in 1396.
