I gave this dahlia a leaf background and positioned it laying across the leaf. It then occurred to me it might look better flipped and upright. So V2 was an afterthought. This time, I've gone with my personal preference for V1, and my original idea. But I'll see what you think.
1/50sec @ f7.1, ISO200, natural light, hand-held.

wow, fantastic colours and detail, it looks so perfect, great shot
I like the diagonal in the leaf going down in v1. The flower has wonderful edging colours. The whole image has some super colours - particularly in the leaf.

This is exquisite Pamela.
A beautiful delicate colour, with the petals tipped with that lovely red.
The detail is wonderful.
Both versions work very well, but I think a slight preference to V1.
That leaf was a great idea.
Hilary
Thankyou, you are all so kind.
I have to admit to loving this particular dahlia for the outlines on the petals.
Stunning detail in the flower and the leaf, beautiful colour too, i prefer v2 just slightly.
Detail, tones and colour are spot on, most of what I would have said has been written above by others so I won't repeat them ....just agree with them!!.
As for a preference, hard to say, if pushed I would probably go with V1 because it looks a little more balanced in the horizontal format.
Phil
either way have each own right Pamela, great flower photography.
Dennis
Stunning in all respects Pamela, superb photography here, like them both,
Geoff.
Beautiful image - amazing detail. V1 for me. How on earth do you manage pin-sharp when hand-held at this close range??
Anne
Stunning colours Pamela. Like you I just prefer the composition of version 1.
Phil.
Gorgeous, Pamela, lovely detail and colours...V1 for me.

Pamela, this is absolutely wonderful. Are you known as The dahlia girl by any chance?
or the flower girl? Goodness me you come with some of the most beautiful images I have come across.
Wonderful work. And handheld? Aah, I am totally bowled ![]()

Hi Pamela …
This is one of the example of simple excellent photo … every thing is well defined , outer lines are so clear . soul of this picture lies in the black background .shades from the flower on leaf gives feel of depth . you worked on it well
I like the v2 because it has got more balance ..is it ?
Thankyou so much, there have been some wonderful comments on this image, and I've enjoyed them all.
A cream dream indeed Pamela, I love the peachy/tangerine colours. The detail and clarity is outstanding in this one as is the presentation
