Firstly, a big thankyou to posty57 and Rolepics for their User Awards on my Morning Glories.
Thankyou Barry and Carole.
This is the Spathiphyllum or Peace Lily, sometimes known as the Spathe Flower or Snowflower.
This is not a true lily, but an aroid, related to the anthurium and alocasia.
You are probably more used to seeing them white, but they gradually fade from pure white to green over time. However, I have to admit to being unsure as to whether this is a different variety because they have been heavily hybridized.
The Spadix: the centre, the flower; a densely crowded inflorescence; generally cream or white when young, turns green with age.
The Spathe: the outside, a large bract; the long white, yellowish or greenish cupped "leaf"; generally white or white with green nerves distally from the margin, turns green with age.
The common name, Peace Lily, is from the universally acknowledged white flag of truce during battles.
A symbol of hope, life after death, re-birth, resurrection, truce, calm, serenity, purity and sweetness.
It's a popular indoor plant, an excellent air purifier that successfully filters out pollutants, ensuring that the ambience of your house remains pure and fresh.
Pamela.
