Hi,
I think the background introduces a colour that doesn't mix with the colours introduced by the girls. Despite the line going straight to the lips of the girl o the left the coming from the right is irrelevant to the position of the girl on the right. Probably a white background could make a stronger contrast but then, if that was not shot in a studio.... even the lowest aperture of the lens may had not blurred it to a point it becomes totally irrelevant and unoticable.
