While it may be mostly Pagans and Wiccans who celebrate the Yule holiday, nearly all cultures and faiths have some sort of winter solstice celebration or festival. Because of the theme of endless birth, life, death, and rebirth, the time of the solstice is often associated with deity and other legendary figures. No matter which path you follow, chances are good that one of your gods or goddesses has a winter solstice connection.

A lovely creative image Maureen, I wonder did she blow life into our Christmas tree Wink - I too enjoyed your narrative and look forward to more of your beautiful images ... Carol Grin

hello Carol,
when i made the image
i thought she was blowing the stars and lights onto the tree.
but i like the images to be interpreted to suit the viewer.

Celebrating the return of the light. Beautifully rendered, and universally primal.

She fulfils the Return Of The Light that Joline speaks of, and which I can wholly relate to.
Thankyou for that refreshing commentary about the winter solstice, and your beautiful image, which speaks volumes to me, whereas a robin, father christmas or sparkly bauble does not.
Although I personally don't "do" the traditional Christmas, it will always be celebrated in one way or another because it is mid-winter and the turning of the year.

thank you Pamela for the comments,

at the school i work they are celebrating the different festivals of light,

and as you say most countries have one,
my son and family are in Israel at the moment
and are celebrating Hanukkah, with candles and doughnuts.

we have some collages on the walls at school from Africa, and Iceland etc.
that is what inspired my image,

the shortest day, and then...
the start of the lighter days,
its a thing we all cherish i am sure

In these cold dull winter days, we hunger for the light of spring, a new beginning for one and all, you and I searching for warmth and comfort to be denied! by winters icy hands out stretched towards us. Will we ever get warm again! the cold eating in to our very bones, will we be kissed again by the heart warming rays of the sun. We are not in charge of our destiny! so be it! but hope springs eternal until the day we die?. L.j.arditti 2012. regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin
