This is my last upload of this year. I just want to thank everyone for teaching me so much about photography. I can't believe how much I've learned in such a short time.

This image was taken about 20 minutes after my last upload 'Under the pier.' Those 20 minutes were spent mostly waiting around for the rain to stop and for the sun to get high enough to illuminate the mountians and sheets of rain across the bay. I was lucky, because about 10 minutes after this was taken the skies cleared and the light was too harsh.

The Hanalei pier points directly towards the mountians often referred to as 'Bali Hai.', named after a song (by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II) from the musical South Pacific (1949 on Broadway, 1958 as a movie). This area resembles the island Tioman, which is the original Bali Hai.

25 second exposure @F20 with ND grads 0.9 + 0.6

And what a way to end 2006 with Patrick.
Really good lead-in lines with the pier, gorgeous light & colours in the sky.
Really like the effect the long exposure has had on the water.
Very nice indeed.

Paddie, whenever I look at your images I am greatly inspired-- I think-- How can I transfer this fantastic technique to what I do-- --smooth , magical colors, perfect composition-- and the light-- always waiting for the perfect light! This last, I think- the most important aspect of what I have learned from you--
I could not choose a favorite image-- but will continue to enjoy them all as they come-- Merry Holidays-- Jennnnnn

LOL Scotty. It seems like winter is a great time to go for those frosty scenes but it sure looks cold! I'll ahve to think about that one...

You have a good one too Paul. I wanted to include the tip of the penninsula in this one and I didn't want the pier to dominate too much, but rather to point to the light. I do have one from the other side that may address your point. Tradeoffs, tradeoffs.. You may be forcing me to put that other one up!

Malcolm, time to mix it up then!

True Terry, but I think if I had dragged the log over, it might have looked too contrived. This is a 3 mile long stretch of sand with hardly anything but sand all the say around the bay. I was lucky to have a log on the other side. And I didn't want to distract from the light on the mountian and under the pier. It might have been too busy with the log. But who knows!

I'm late again Patrick (I blame the kitchen floor!). I like the composition, the light on the slope in the background, and wonderful sky. The movement in the sky adds drama to the shot, but I'm suprised at how little movement there was in 25 seconds. Hey Thomas,
It does look that way, doesn't it? I look forward to seeing all your new stuff in 2007. Any time yuo want to come out, you'll have a guide.

LOL - Jojo, that would be vanilla soy milk from the looks of it! and I do have a 'non-soy milk' version.

Have a great holiday too Colin.

That's the nicest thing you could say Kris. Now the pressure is on!

Bit late as usual so I won't repeat everything that's been said except I love your camera work on this, especially the long exposure.

Where is Patrick hiding out these days.....?

This is an exceptional shot, P....Almost as good as some of those superb English-lit-hill shots that get soooooooo much attention, guess your going to have to work a little bit harder for that award....hee hee!

Sorry, I couldn't help myself, but, hey-it's 1:37am and I am trying to get back into my all-night stay up mode to start working again soon and it's not easy.....Smile
Just a little bit giddy tonite if you haven't noticed.

Really, I just Luv taking up all this empty space on your picture shots, especially since you don't get as many comments during the middle of the night....I am only number 2003 or something like that...Smile

Merry Belated Christmas and Happy New Year....

Have a Wonderful Sunday.......Smile

Guess who......Smile

Ooops, almost forgot, you won the 'Megamuffy Award' for this finely lit shot....Smile

Thanks Phil.

As to the next commenter. I'm not quite sure that I can guess who it is? LOL - You have left so few hints that I have nothing to go on!

Thanks for the nice wishes whoever you are! I hope you had a great Christmas time in whatever country you are from. I'm updating my website today because I'm giving a talk this week on photography for a camera club of about 50 people. I'll be using my website to give the talk.

Later,

Patrick

Hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, here's wishing you the very best for 2007.

I've clicked this because of the light - which is wonderful - but it's a bit lopsided for me... As there's so much to look at on the left hand side and so much space on the right, I find it a little unbalanced...
