Here is a companion view to last week's 'Sandstone and Sky', as I tried to line up the sandstone to the clouds above by moving down the beach. This one got me wet, but I wanted to get lower to capture a livlier scene with the wave impacting the rock.
This was about 1 hour after sunrise. I rarely see good light in California much after about 1/2 hour after sunrise or 1/2 hour before sunset so I made the most of it! But the last two weeks of stormy weather have changed that a bit.

Have to admit I guessed it was yours to, you have a quite individual style. Amazing sky
Cheers
Den
Thanks for looking.
LOL Den, I wonder what my style is? I can't quite figure it out. I'm just shooting what I like.
Good eye Annette!
Patrick
superb shot Patrick, dynamic and full of atmosphere, that sky is quite intimidating. Excellent
Rgds
Dave
I must say..I just looked on here a few moments ago to see if you posted anything yet and there wasn't anything..then there you are and with people waiting in line it seems..Which is a Good thing... You have got another winner on your hands.. lovely image and will be standing in line to see your next ![]()
Beautiful colour and great detail, you feel like ducking the way the wave is heading straight for the camera. Just as well its warm in Canada. My nephew tells me you're having heavy rain in California at the moment, shame...
All the very best
Dougie
Knew it was yours from the thumb!
That sky is just awesome mate!!! ![]()
Scotty
i love the pic but the sky hurts my eyes and takes away from the picture
Thanks for stopping by!
Yes Dave, it was like a bit object was right overhead!
LOL Dawn Michelle, I snuck it in while you turned away.
Dougie, it is clear righ tnow, but some places have flooded so I hope to get some streams heading into the ocean while I can.
Jacqueline, this was about an hour after a brilliant sunrise, so yes, you don't need the intense colours all the time. I may put up the sunrise one sometime.
Godo to hear from you Chris. I was wondering where you'd gone.
True Martin, this has more action and is livlier and there is more sun here. The last one was about structure I think.
LOL Stuart, watch out for migraines!
Patrick
Ah that sky again. But this time with the signature Patrick Smith mood!!
Superb capture once again.
Phil.
Thanks for dropping by!
Yes Phil, I added some extra drama into this one once I had the first one in the bag!
Patrick
Thanks Ken (franken) for the award! I just spotted it now.
Patrick
A lovely sky and great timing on the wave action too Patrick. Well captured.
Worth getting wet for this shot. I like the low angle. The breaking waves are great. I like the lighting and the cloud formation. So as they've all said before me: a stunning and beautiful image. JNC
Thanks for having a look!
That was one nasty 'splash' Janet!
Yes Peter, this one is more about the water movement though I made sure I had a few sandstone formations going in the right direction.
Patrick

Beautiful, fab and gorgeous. What more can I say? Oh I know - stunning!

Hi Patrick, I like the fg rock clarity and colours, the eye catching sky and the sea to the rhs but for me the crashing wave is slightly distracting and blocking my view to the gap in the clouds where the light source is eminating from. Small quibble really but it does mar it a little for me, you can tell me to mind my own business if you want since I suspect you tried hard to catch that wave. ![]()
John
Thanks for dropping in!
LOL Marylyn.. I'll take anything!
No Problem John, that is why I get several different views with different elements emphasized if I get a chance. I don't get 'married' to any of them since everybody likes different things.
In this case yes Bob, though this weekend I got wet for nothing!
Patrick
What a weather front Patrick! I like how that left rock almost echoes the skies texture and colour.
inspiring as always, thanks for uploading another splendid shot.
Thanks for your comments! I'm glad you like the wave.
Patrick
Thanks for your comments!
Yes Brian, that is how it felt too, like a ceiling.
True Maddie, this work thing is cutting into valuable EPZ time! The nerve of them....
Patrick
LOL Mike.
I can't decide either Edgar. This has more drama though.
Patrick
Oh yes, another fantastic capture. Great composition, perfectly exposed and what a super sky.
Darren.
I'm late to the party, and all's been said. A fabulous capture and well worth getting some salt water in your shoes for (or were you barefoot?).
Anne
Thanks for stopping by!
Anne, the party is still on. I was barefoot, though I often use those open water shoes so I can walk on sharp rocks through the water. The temp year round is between about 12c and 16c. It even feels warmer in the winter sometimes than the summer. Probably because of the cooler air in winter.
LOL Pete, what sky?
Patrick
Thanks for stopping in!
Yes David, this is a little more dramatic I think.

still not my favourite, but definately like this one more than the previous one. find the composition here more fluent, and well, that rock on the left just looks so cute.
LOL Koen, I know you like the cute stuff so I'll look around for more!
Patrick
Wonderfully composed, really like the textures of the sand and rocks and that sky is awesome
I just came back to this shot and noticed a slight difference in colour cast between this and the last upload, despite people saying it's good to warm up an image i do think this slightly cooler image is more pleasing to the eye, maybe co's it's an ocean scene and blues are good here....just my tupence.
Thanks for dropping in! I'm glad you like it.
Yes Terry, this is a cooler image because this was taken after the last one, so the sun was higher and brighter. At first I was thinking of making them the same, but this was how it was in the RAW file so I left it alone.
Patrick
Thanks Ian, and don't forget a lot of luck!
I snuck it in Sean while you were sleeping!

Thanks Andrew. This one does have more action for sure!
Patrick
Thanks for stopping by! I try to capture things at the right moment. Sometimes I luck out!
Patrick
And thanks Ken (franken) for the award! You slipped it by me somehow!
Patrick
A first class image Patrick, just what we've come to expect from a man of your calibre.
This is what happens when you hit refesh on a shot where you last made a comment!
Patrick
So much detail in the large version, nice work Pat
Colin
I'm glad you like it!
I'm doing fine Susie and I hope you are too. I see you have a few new ones, so I'll drop on my to see what you've been up to!
Patrick
Amazing fg, amazing bg, marvellous sand and stones, marvellous sky... I could go on and on...
A cracker, simply said.
Jo
Thanks Dennis! I hope you have one too.
