Hunter’s moon ……………… the worst conditions for the Bomber Command crews, silhouetted against the lower cloud tops and lit by the near full moon. Although operations were, in general, not launched in full moon and clear sky conditions there were occasions when due to faulty met forecasts the predicted cloud cover would not materialise. Luftwaffe night fighters, far and away the most effective of the German defences, would reign supreme in the conditions implied in the image - beautiful but deadly.

Composite image from airshow pics and archive sky scapes - with a fair amount of desaturation and just a touch of blue filter.

The minute I saw this image "Bombers' Moon" flashed into my thoughts: I seem to remember reading a war novel of that title, but could be mistaken.
It is certainly a very powerful image, beautifully put together, and as is your custom you supply such interesting background info.
Super bit of work, Pat.

Thanks Ronnie - guess you might be thinking of the novel by Alan Taylor, think it was tekevised in some form or other, also one of my firts posts on EZ, in '07, was the version just posted - a companion image titled 'Bomber's Moon'.

Looks great Grampa. Lighting is just correct and the moon is brilliant. Great stars and seem to be in the correct position.
