While waiting for the ferry in the port of Bari in Italy I decided to have a look around the flower pots to see what insect life I could find and came across this little fella. Had te 70 - 300mm lens on the camera so could only get the head in focus. No time to change lens cos was very shy (the lizard that is). Kept hiding in the foliage. No idea what it is so if anyone can ID would be grateful.
Apologies for lack of clicks on other photos at the moment. Am using mobile internet that is costing fortune. Normal service will resume as soon as have landline connected back on in Crete.
Hope you like the shot and thanks for looking.
And thanks to Lillian for the mod on yesterdays upload plus all the other clicks.
Comments/criticism/mods all welcome.

I took a photo of a very similar lizard to this on a Greek Island (Zakinthos) and it was identified as a wall Lizard on a forum.

Nice shot

Hi, I'm pretty sure that this is the Italian Wall Lizard - Podarcis sicula and is a male.
My reference source is :- page 27 A Field Guide to the Reptiles and Amphibians of Britain and Europe by E.N.Arnold & J.A. Burton (Published by Collins in1978 - a cracking little book!.
Nice image.

Having read your description of the problem trying to get a shot of this, what you got was simply stunnig Paul, but that's just what we've come to expect from you!
Rgds., JIm
PS. Are you back in Crete for good? Have seen you referring to it a few times now.

Brilliant detail and colours in this close up Paul. You've made a wise choice to return to Crete, I wouldn't want to be in Aberdeen in this weather!
