I had the pleasure of photographing this epic animal the Heavy Horse, or Brabant; a horse breed that comes from the West-Brabantian region of Belgium.

They are one of the strongest of the heavy breeds. The world's largest horse was a Brabant named Brooklyn Supreme, who weighed 3,200 pounds, and stood at 19.2 hands. On average the Brabant will grow to be slightly over 1 ton or 2,000 pounds. Colors normally are a blond with a brighter mane, or a sorrel/ chestnut coloring.

In history their main use was to work farms. They are able to pull tremendous amounts of weight-up to over 4,500 pounds for a pair.

I hope I've done him justice. This was taken on a stud farm in West Flanders, Belgium.

This is beautiful!

Incredible animal and well captured. Thanks for the narrative too!
A good mono capture with good dof, and the overcast sky adds to the picture too.

wonderful image Paul, just one niggle. There is nothing to give the image any scale, so its hard to feel the size of the horse to match the text.

I hope that makes sense, lol

Perfect processing, lovely mono, no complaints at all there.

Anthony

Thanks everyone. Anthony, I hope the bits of straw and the churned mud plus the low angle give a sense of scale.

Cracking capture and the mono treatment really accentuates the horse detail. Chaz.

That's a very impressive animal and a superb photograph. As far as I'm concerned the image does have a sense of scale but maybe you need a little knowledge of horses to appreciate just how powerful he is?
