My wifes father is travelling from Riga to The Ukraine in a couple of weeks to see family he hasn't seen for 30 years or more, since he was in the Russian army and based in Latvia.

For those of us who looked through WW II photos in books and newspapers in times from 1940 to 1955, images like this carry many layers of meaning. For younger folks the meanings may be less clear. This is an excellent memories and moods photo. TG
PS: Even the dog type has profound meanings.

Intriguing image very effectively and skilfully composed and produced, V1 is definitely the one I prefer.

A very clever worked out composite image, which in many ways is full of possible narratives. I will stick with the colour version.

like it paul v1 seems to work better the little bit of colour as in the red on the uniform stands for the concept of the image not too much just enough and it works well sets a great ambience to the overall composition,
well thought out paul,
The little rottie is cool aswell

I like both - different feel to them. The soft colour tones gives the image a dreamlike effect (for me).
