The Theme: Oceans
This is the story of Sumala and her little girl Amrita. They make a living on a beach North Goa.
With her limited English I managed to put her story to context. Her husband was a fisherman but for some fate he is not around anymore. She has moved into a bamboo shack with Amrita and scavages the beach for drift wood, sea shells, any fish left on the nets and fallen coco nuts to sell to passers by... She showed a dignified acceptance to it all, I went and bought some food for them at a little beach shack. What broke my heart was at the end of the time we spent there she asked me if I wanted to adopt her daughter as she'd have a much better future with me... I asked about her family, they are from another state but they can't afford to have her back as it'll mean two more mouths to feed... Sad story indeed...

I am shedding tears reading this , wonderful photos and write up too, how sad this is, that people live like this when we have so much.
I know that you will feel helpless in this situation.

We all know that the world is full of such sadness, it's a little easier to deal with
when it's seen in a news report on TV. This must have been very difficult and upsetting
but you did what you could and i'm sure Sumala and her daughter appreciated your kindness.
Very sad.

Dave.

We humans seem not to manage peace and wealth very well. This is
very stressful for that poor mother. They have some help from persons
passing I suspect. There is generosity among the poor there.
Not so much in the middle east and Africa I fear. The fate of children
in those war zones Is a disgrace to all those who operate corporations
and have great wealth.... Oil wealth.....Poppy / Heroine wealth. TG
