A sky that just demands you point your lens at it, as you did her and so effectively, Nathan: wonderfully atmospheric.
Of the 3 versions, V 2 clicks with me the best, the balance the most pleasing to my eye.
And the seagulls do add that extra factor, each captured in fine detail and silhouette.

V3 for me, and I might even go further. In V1 the interest all seems to be on the right side of the frame, the sun rays, gulls and wave. The left is empty, and creates an imbalance for me. It would work better if the wave was crashing a bit further to the left of this one, on the dreaded third...
I might even go for a square crop from the right of V1, with that gull just above the horizon on the left of the frame and the crashing wave on the right.

Although I love V3 for the majesty of the whole sky, I can see why you did what you did with V1. I'd personally love to see a V4 ... cropped from the bottom so that there's little shingle in the foreground, but the glorious beauty of the sky is complete and not cropped out. Superb.

Black clouds masking the rays of the sun are forever - if you know how to capture it (and you're really good at it!) - a subject of great effect. You propose us, as usually, a very difficult game! Choose from three very good things is always very difficult. After several minutes of comparison and deliberation, the Jury (me!) decided: V3
My opinion is that, without the spectacular top, the picture is poorer ( as l imagine the original is 3); Besides, the order of my preferences would be: 3-2-1
And I could afford a discreet suggestion - since you used the cutouts, why not one in which you keep the entire sky and cut the sand ( a kind of 2 +3).
Best regards
Silviu
