I've just experienced the world of claims. Someone ran into the back of my car. They weren't concentrating at a roundabout and set off before I did. They accept liability. I phone the insurance co and proceed to make a fully comp claim. I'm told that that the claim will be dealt with by an acci...

Changing the environment

Clumber Park is close by to the Turbine office. If you've been you'll be aware it's a huge combination of open land and forest where families picnic and go for cycle rides, on or off road. It's also home for a vast range of wildlife and a variety of flora. When I was a kid, what stuck out for me...

Waterproof cameras

I was playing around with a Pentax W60 the other day. It, like all waterproof cameras is great for the beach as sand and sea will not get into the camera so you can take pictures, It's also great for good old British weather where it pees it down regularly. So fine you can use it when it's wet. ...

Blogs

Well it's interesting that another feature is being used so much ;-) A few tried our blog once, several had a few goes and we are now left with just a few. So the recent page is becoming very blue with the number of Conrad's and my avatars. As blogging is such a big culture and our forums are ...

People

Over the last seven years I've had a roller coaster of emotional experiences with communication with this online world. Prior to here I worked in publishing, and the only experience you got was the occasional letter from "Mr Angry from Tunbridge Well" and a rare praising letter. Before ...

Now I can talk about the LX3

Just over a week ago I was invited to see a new camera...a compact. I rarely get enthused about compacts, but this one was different. I'm talking about the new Panasonic Lumix LX3 that we announced yesterday. As members of the press we are often given previews of embargoed products. SLRs are usu...

A new camera feature

We've seen some great features appearing in digital cameras and one thing that really impressed me recently on a Sony camcorder with touch screen has brought me to develop the concept for Combined Intelligent Spot metering (CISM) It's my thought for the future cameras. Basically the Sony Camcord...

eBay - and hal

I've had a problem with eBay. In short I was given incorrect advice by their email support team. I acted on the advice and got a series of sellers charges that I would not have got if the advice I was given was correct. I requested a cancelation the day after the listings went live, and then wen...

Glastenbury - smug

Watched a few highlights last night and really enjoyed the new Verve track Love is Noise. I went to Glastenbury several years ago (Bowie Headlined). I left early and missed him :-(. I got the wrong idea about the festival. I thought it was a huge group of fun people wanting to spend time in the same...

How long?

I've just returned from the local pub. I arrived there at 20:20 and, without a reservation, asked for a table. The barman said they were busy and it would be about 21:00 before we would get served. Not a problem...so 21:00 came then about 10mins later our order was taken, but the food didn't arrive ...

Guide to Great Photography II

Did I say I would never, ever do another version? I think I did? Well the other day I started pencilling the way I'd do it again, if I did do it, not that I will...erm I think I may be losing my mind, even considering this...but who knows. I really liked the book when it landed on my desk ...

Happiest Photographic moment

What's your happiest photography moment? I have a couple. The first time I was published. I got a photo and news piece written up in the main Sheffield paper about me gaining an LRPS. The second was when I got my first call from Amateur Photographer magazine. They were editing an article ...

Lord of the manor

I visited a stately home a few months ago. Almost every room had a collection of stuffed birds or cased insects (many were duplicated (in fact, in some cases there were dozens of the same variety). This was the home of someone who obviously liked to "bag" his prey, and show it off with pri...
