Love the reflections and the clear water starting the shot. Looks good in mono as well!

That dark shadow across the mountain face adds such impact to an already excellent shot, the reflections so well captured in the smooth waters which also allow the stones underwater in the f/g to show up so clearly too.

That dark shadow gives some modelling to it Dougie and the whole image reminds me of a naked lady lying on her back......not that I have seen many of them Dougie.

Loch Slapin and Beinn na Caillich again? I've just been looking back at the colour upload, a different shot obviously, from the clouds. Mono is so much moodier.
Yes, I was seeing a reclining nude here, partly because we have just been walking over one. Details to follow on Sunday...

A beautiful monochrome conversion, the dark and rather imposing shadows which lie on the face of mountain sides adds a sense of moodiness and mystery, whilst the crystal clear water and reflections provide a delightful calming contrast.

A classic monochrome landscape. The left edge of the mountain's reflection from the darkest point centre left continues to the bottom of the frame, forming a wedge with the shoreline that contains the entire reflection, an inverse mirror of the way the actual hillside tapers off to the right. Very strong composition.

Bill

How different this is from the colour version, Dougie. The warmth and inviting feel is gone and a colder, bleaker feel has been introduced. That was my first impression, at least. Then, upon studying the image some more, I see the shadows across the Beinn are evidence of the sun and ergo, warmth.

Lovely tones and beautiful reflections Dougie; works very well in mono too.
For some reason this image reminds me of a quote from one of Bill Bryson's travel books;
" … I drove on to Grand Teton National Park. And there's another arresting name for you. Tetons means tits in French. … The first French explorers who passed through northwestern Wyoming took one look at the mountains and said, "Zut alors! Hey, Jacques, clock those mountains. They look just like my wife's tetons." Isn't it typical of the French to reduce everything to a level of sexual vulgarity? Thank goodness, they didn't discover the Grand Canyon, that's all I can say."

Not to mention Les Ballons des Vosges, where there's an interesting local line in postcards on the theme...

I think, the ball of cloud on top of the mountains makes this image perfect. Superb reflection and fg detail.
