I didn't judge the tide correctly on my trip over to Kimmeridge Bay in Dorset. I wanted to catch the 'washing ledge' whilst still visible but I arrived a little too late and it was submerged. Not to be deterred I ventured round the bay to the area of stone shelves known as 'The flats'. The advantage of this position being that you can include the lighthouse on the headland.

That's incredible. The rock looks as if it's been cut out and pasted on. Brilliant.

I kept a careful eye out Ron. Down to about 8' of passable beach to get back to the car park though.

So you went there to get the shot that everyone takes, missed it, and came away with something better….

Absolutely right Julian. When visiting classic locations I like to come away with the popular shots and some images from a slightly different view. On this occasion the tide did not give me any choice but to look for more original shots.

A beauty Derek, sharp, from the dark and mystic foreground to the bright and sunny headland. One shot or your re-focus technique?

One shot Dave. I know all about hyperfocal focussing but really all that maths and measuring tapes are not for me. I dont have the exif detail with me at the moment but this was probably shot at f13 ( Rarely use more than f16 unless I want a long exposure ) and focused using the Live View x10, 1/3rd way into the image. Seems to work pretty well

The patterns of the rocks are simply amazing and work perfectly well with the soft light.
