...on the Kyle of Tongue in Sutherland. The castle is believed to be the 1,000 year old home of the Chieftain of the Clan Mackay, ruined now but still looks down on the Sound.
Seen here with Ben Loyal glowering down behind.

The castle looks wonderful bathed in that pool of light. Looks a very special place indeed.

The cloud topped and shadowed Ben Loyal makes a contrasting backdrop to the sunlit plateau surface on which the Castle rests, Dougie: nice use of light and shadow in this image from this rugged part of the land.
And the grass around the Castle makes a change from the browns of the heaths/heathers.
Ronnie.

It looks so small in its pool of light, under the grey menace of the mountain. So much for the pretensions of Clan Mackay.
Reminds me of Shelley's Ozymandias.

I took a couple of shots from, I suspect, almost exactly the same spot in 2010, Dougie, but the 50d and sigma lens I had then gave nowhere near as good a result as this...plus the weather was not on our side!

A nice wee break in the cloud to get the light on the castle. Mean and moody mountains behind. Lovely. Moira

Special light Dougie. I've never been here - perhaps on our next trip if we're in that area. Love the massive Ben Loyal looking quite ominous.

The light on the castle brings it out well against Ben Loyal Dougie.
