Taken in a wheat field in the Darent Valley, Kent yesterday as the sun broke through heavy cloud. It was also very windy. Great conditions for landscape photography.

Superb shot Derek, excellent mood and drama coupled with great composition and light. I like how the tractor lines follow the line of trees and kink to the right at the top....LOVE IT Smile

That was sloppy of me. Thanks for pointing it out Alda. I can correct the tiff file before I print.

Wow, I thought it was going to be in Tuscany! Love the repeating wheat heads, the blowing trees supplying movement and the dramatic story sky. The sweeping lead in is excellent too. A very powerful image! My only thought would be to loose the trees at the left frame edge; they are dark and a bit distracting and being cropped they are much less satisfying that the distant trees and slightly unbalance the comp to my eyes. I guess you loose some FG if you crop but there is plenty of it and it appears to be all sharply focussed so I think this beautiful image would withstand it. Smile

I like the moody sky and leading in lines, and i can imagine it looks even better when the wheat turn brown in a few weeks time. Also another great location to do portrait. I agree with Almiles the tree on left is distracting.

Yung

Thanks for that Alan. I took quite a few shots with different compositions including and excluding the trees on the left. I still like the inclusion of the nearest trees as I think they give some interest in the mid ground in what is a very simple composition. That said I have a few shots where the gap between the trees and frame opens up due to the wind and that does look better.
I decided to go with this shot because the sky was particularly good and I liked the movement of the wheat in the near foreground.

It's all been said Derek, you've picked a good location, the sky helps add drama to the scene but like others those trees on the left are a little distracting, but that's a niggle to an otherwise very fine image.

Opinion seems to be evenly split on those trees to the left.
