This one is dedicated to Trevor (Trevhas) who set me a challenge to shoot my usual portrait format and then shoot a landscape format at the same place. I went back to Loch Morlich on Thursday morning at attempted his challenge. I couldn't shoot from the same spot both ways because the comps didn't work but I did shoot both formats from the same 20 meter stretch of shore depending on what worked where. I think that sticks to the terms of the challenge. I've found his challenge to be very effective at making me look more closely at structure and form as well as framing and it has improved my skills. Every day's a school day on EPZ; thanks Trevor! Smile

This looks west down the loch towards the boat club house.

A much more serene image than yesterday's, Al, but with the same balance of ice and cloud. The diagonal lines of ice makes an excellent dynamic lead in. Would be hard pushed to choose between the two images.

Beautiful, and perfectly suited to the format. I also think EPZ is a wonderful teaching community.

Wow !! So that's what it looks like. Magnificent landscape Alan with a great lead in around the lake with the ice, which leads eventually to the three mountains with an added bonus point for the reflections. Love the bluey colours with a hint of pink representing a typical cold winters day in the mountains, fantastic.

I was meaning to finish the challenge today with my final pic 'Fields of white' but i've just been out and couldn't help but take both formats, i think it's inbedded. You can certainly add alot more impact in the portrait shots, i have found that once i have identified a lead in line in the landscape i would move the tripod left or right and close in, get down low, you will never 2 good shots if you leave the tripod where it is and just tilt the camera. At the end of the day its about getting the best from the subject and moving is certainly allowed to insure a good landscape and portrait shot. Enjoy.

Very nice indeed Alan. The ice makes a very good lead-in and frames the reflection beautifully.
