Lily

LilyWelcome to ePhotozine (I'm a beginner, too!), and congrats on such a fab first upload. I think it's brill, especially the composition, the petals are beautifully soft, but make a really nice frame for the main subject, the pollen-ie bits!!
Sure, you could perhaps have had a slightly deeper depth of field as you hint, by closing the aperture by a few stops (if you put the settings you (or your camera!) used in your description, people will be able to offer all sorts of extra advice-this can usually be found in the info or properties for each image). A smaller aperture may not have been possible, as there may not have been enough light, especially at a long zoom which could be pretty shaky. But this is a really pleasing photo, isn't it! (If you can whip a tripod out during nap times(!) you could play around with aperture-priority mode.)
From one who has taken to carrying the camera in the bottom of the pram in order to grab those brief moments, big respect and happy photographing - thank God for play pens!! Wink)

Forgotten

ForgottenThis is lovely, v. emotive for anybody who's ever been to the beach!

I want to know how exactly you do that funky colour/mono thing -lasso tool and a lot of patience?! Elementary, I'm sure, but I want somebody to tell me!!

On the pic, I wonder if you could leave just a little more space to the left of the bucket? It sort of seems to be 'looking' that way... Just a v small thought from a newbie...!
