Took a walk along Lytham estuary today, turned back when this lady was blocking my path, i didn't want to find out if she would charge or not. I know i'm a coward but there was a young calf close by and i did not want to risk it
You did right by turning back, they are very protective, they are more likely to charge if you had a dog with you, several people have been killed over the last three years, one last year in Wales. excellent shot under those conditions.
They do charge by the way..I turned round just to stop one just in time earlier in the year..then I had to peg it and vault a barbed wire fence!!
I got to about 30ft away from her and she started to scrape her front foot along the ground so thats when i thought "sod it" and stopped
They will charge and trample if they feel their calves are in danger.........a mothers instinct.........don't enter a field where cows are with their young.......they will protect them.......

It was on the public footpath
Nice head on shot.
