License?

This looks to be a nest site if so as a schedule 1 bird you need a license to carry out any photography near the nest...

Good pose... enjoy the lens, although I have a new bigger lens I will never be parted from my 300.

Have you used NR on this? When I look at the large version the feather detail appears to be 'smudged', if you have used NR then it might be worth looking at edge masks.

Good one Greg... for me it is a shame that there is a touch of motion blur on the head, difficult to avoid I should imagine, also it looks a touch on the dark (underexposed) side to me, the detail is there so I just wonder if your monitor is set up correctly?

A Good Drying Day

A Good Drying Day by terry_cavner

They're not ugly, they are just well comorant looking.....

Nice composition and a nice perch with the bird in typical wing drying pose, the image as presented is lacking contrast, you can push those blacks quite a bit and still retain detail, looking at the noise under the wing it appears that you have brought the exposure up quite a bit (could be wrong here), rather too much.

Nice warm light and well exposed, the bg is tad busy but sufficiently OOF not to detract from a very fine image of a great bird.

Green finch

Green finch by Hawkgenes

Hi,

I'm going to go against the majority here, the pose and composition are fine, but it is spoilt by an obviously gausian blurred bg, IMO this never works, apply it at a much lower amount and take extra care of the edges, an OOF branch with a sharp edge looks just plain wrong....

Not trying to be disparaging just honest and I think that the image is there, would love to see the original.

Blue Tit

Blue Tit by fossilized

Hi,

Dull weather as here often helps to retain the details in the whites which quickly become hot in bright light. The downside is that exposure becomes very low, you have done well here, pose and composition is good, I might prefer the bird slightly smaller in the frame, but that is personal and for web presentation your size is fine. I like the bg with a hint of the environment and it is nice and neutral pushing the bird forward in the image.

I might try just a small boost in saturation, only small mind you.

Good for you, hope Greg kept you supplied with coffee etc.... a fine image, one to be proud of.

Very nice... I would prob move the bird more to the right so that he is looking into the frame rather than out.
