Finally added a self-image.. was waving arms around in an attempt to explain photography to our recent group and Yorkie the Barn Owl thought that my fat fingers were chicken legs. (the Owl is the intelligent-looking one by the way). Thanks to Graham for the image.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my portfolio, despite my own personal
preferences or bias i will attempt to display a wide range of image subjects and styles so that hopefully there will be something to suit all (or most) tastes.
The vast majority of my 'wildlife' images will be set-ups with captive animals (Obv save for Kenya and India images), a genuine hats off to those that can achieve their results with proper wildlife.
Whilst it may not suit everyone (esp Thumper's Mother), i believe that any critique offered should be genuine.
Whilst we all like to see/hear "oh, that's nice" does not help anyone improve their photography.
Please feel 100% free to comment openly regards my own images, a seemingly harsh but genuine, knowledgeable critique is just as welcome as a pandering one.
I am here to share my own images with those that may be interested, to appreciate the work of others, to take advice where available, and to offer it where appropriate.
For those that share my own appreciation of birds of prey photography and may have already visited Vince at Barn Owl Centre, I am now running a similar experience at a venue in Leicestershire although only c. 15-20 minutes from Tamworth.
The venue itself has a relatively small selection of birds - Barn Owl, Bengal Eagle Owl, Long-Eared Owl, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Peregrine, Saker, Harris, Kestrel - but where they excel is in the range of environmmental settings at our disposal. For those that admit to still learning, there will be an initial classroom 'tuition' session and then guidance throughout the day.
The aim is to deliver great opportunities for the experienced and advice on settings and techniques for those who are perhaps less experienced / confident.
Feedback so far has been excellent, stating a better experience and outcome than Experience Seminars, Going Digital, and Wild Arena.
Our most recent tuition day was Sat 12th April 2012 (see either my own or Dave Hollis's images) so we are just about to begin planning our next, ideally something a little different this time rather than risk boring regular attendees (Dave, "ugly") too much.
the standard fee is £85, or £70 for returning togs or those introducing/bringing along a participating friend.
you will note that this is a whole £25 more than Vince's BOC workshops but we tend to run for more than his allotted time and the fee does also include photographic tuition as well as the access etc to the birds.
i am not knocking either Vince or BOC by the way i love it there - i just wanted somewhere we could be i) even more flexible ii) fly a Barn Owl

PS also have written a 'how to' guide - let me know if you would be interested in receiving a copy for critique - again feedback so far has been excellent.
