Shirt and Boots V2

Shirt and Boots V2A lovely portrait: good soft lighting, nice skin tones and a great pose! The hat could do to be darker to contrast against the background as it seems to blend in a little.
You can change the colour of your background if you are not happy with it by adjusting the hue slider. Another option is to desaturate the textured layer and then apply a coloured layer over the top of it. You will need to play around with blending modes and opacities to achieve your desired effect.
You seem very keen to learn so I would strongly recommend posting in the critique gallery and enabling mods.
Keep up the good work.

Chilled Pineapple

Chilled PineappleLovely composition with the building perfectly placed and nicely framed with the branches. As already mentioned the foreground is a little under exposed so I have offered a mod to correct this whilst retaining your sky with a layer mask. I finished with a touch of unsharp mask.
I hope you approve and I look forward to your next offering.

Country Road

Country RoadThis is wonderfully composed with the road disappearing on a third. I also love how subsequent trees copy the first one to form a great tunnel.
I have offered a mod with wb adjusted to remove the blue cast although some will prefer the original as it conveys a sense of coldness.
Very well seen and captured.

Sunset Girl

Sunset GirlNothing at all wrong with this shot but I always feel compelled to try a mod. I cropped the left to lose the trunk and then warmed up the shot to intensify the colours.
A different take on sunset shots beautifully executed. We were in Kusadasi last year and treated to a lovely sunset every night.
Well done.

Ruffled Feathers

Ruffled FeathersThis is a good effort given the conditions but it may have paid to up the ISO to get a faster shutter speed.
Compositionally there is a fair bit of wasted space either side of the bird so I have cropped it in portrait format at 10 x 8. The harsh light from the side has possibly left the shot a little under exposed so I have made a levels adjustment whilst protecting the highlights with a layer mask. Finally I sharpened as the image is fairly soft.
The pose, eye contact, movement in the feathers and blurred background are all terrific.

Waiting

WaitingA good image, I rather like this, it makes me wonder what the guy is thinking. The composition is good but I find there are a couple of distracting elements: the triangle in the upper left corner and the writing on the side of the machine.
I have therefore offered a mod in which I cropped these bits out and then cropped the right to balance. I straightened the image a little and sharpened as it is quite soft. Just to add a twist I flipped the image so that the reflected text read the right way.

man in red

man in redAs already mentioned the shot is rather under exposed. I also feel that the wb is a bit off as the snow has a blue tint to it. In my mod I have addressed these issues and also cropped top and right to move the figure to a better part of the frame.
Having said all that I do rather like the image. The trees nicely lead the eye to the man although he could perhaps be a little closer.
Nice work and I look forward to your next offering (complete with exif data to keep Frank happy!)

sad

sadA very striking portrait, well done indeed.
The light coming through the slats to her left is superb but there are a number of distractions to her right. I have therefore offered a mod with a crop to the left and top of the image. This also places the eyes and lips in a more prominent position in the frame.
Excellent work though!

Claire b

Claire bA lovely pose and a very well executed shot. I do feel it is a bit on the warm side though and I am unsure about the softness. I have therefore offered a mod in an attempt to address these points. I also adjusted levels to increase the tonal range.
I hope this helps to enhance a great portrait.

Casey

CaseyThis is quite lovely with good lighting and exposure. She stands out so well against that blurred background but I feel she just needs to be moved more off-centre to strengthen the composition. I am fine with the landscape mode so in my mod I cropped bottom and right to place the eyes closer to the intersection of thirds. I then sharpened the hair, eyes and lips.
An excellent start and I look forward to your future uploads.

Jen

JenExcellent image and the connection with the eyes has certainly been achieved but I wonder if she could have just swept her hair up above the left eye.
I have offered a mod with a slight crop and increased light.
Very good work and I hope this is of some use.

Woolacombe Bay

Woolacombe BayA lovely composition with silky smooth water and a great moody sky. The horizon needs straightening though and I think the foreground is a touch too dark. I addressed these issues in my mod and also toned down the highlights in the sky. I hope this offers some improvement on a very nice image.

london

londonThis is excellent and certainly something different for a wedding shot. I thought the image looked a little under exposed and this is backed up by the histogram though this may have been deliberate to create the mood.
I therefore had a go at a mod and increased lighting in levels. I then decided to apply this to the model only so that it increased contrast between her and the background. I also cropped a little from the left as I felt she was placed too far right in the frame.
Not sure if the mod is an improvement but it does offer something slightly different.

Lets go farming

Lets go farmingI basically agree with Scott but I have taken a slightly different approach. The shot is a little under exposed so I corrected this in levels whilst protecting the highlights with a layer mask. I also increased contrast and sharpened.
This is a well composed, candid shot that works very well in mono.

racoon

racoonHi Ann, this is a really nice image. You have controlled the exposure well to hold the whites and captured a good expression bearing some teeth. In terms of the crop I would like to see a bit more space above and lose some from the bottom. Some of the highlights in the background are a bit too bright and therefore distracting. In my mod I toned them down with the shadow / highlights tool and then sharpened using usm. I hope this helps and the mod meets with your satisfaction.

Nutty Squirrel

Nutty SquirrelNobody has mentioned it yet, so maybe it's my eyes, but the focal point appears to be on the foreground tree as the squirrel looks a bit soft in comparison. Maybe consider manual focus or, using auto, place the AF frame on the squirrel's eyes, press the shutter release button half way, recompose and then fully press to take the shot.
I hope this helps.

Zenab

ZenabThis is certainly a cracking shot of a stunning young lady. I have to admit my first impression was that it was under exposed but it looks much better when viewed large. The histogram also suggests a bit more light required so I had a go at a mod. I had to protect the fur with a layer mask as it was just burning out if I increased exposure.
At least it gives you something to compare.

Decorated cart wheel

Decorated cart wheelThis is a lovely looking wheel with some very bold colours. Compositionally I think the hub is a little central so it would benefit from a crop to the LHS. It is also a little underexposed and slightly soft (probably due to resizing).
I have therefore offered a mod where I have cropped so that the spokes emanate from the corners and the hub is offset. I corrected exposure with a levels adjustment and finished with unsharp mask.
I hope this meets with your approval and is of some help.

In the woods

In the woodsI do like this Richard, it makes for a fine abstract. As a bit of a novice it is reassuring to hear that it took 40 attempts to get this.
The histogram is heavily bunched to the left and I wondered if this was done deliberately to achieve your desired look?
Anyway, I thought I would try a mod and see what happens. All I have done is a simple level and curves adjustment to increase contrast which I think brings out the texture more. The increased contrast pushed the colours a bit much so I desaturated.
Your feedback would be appreciated.

Setting Sun

Setting SunHi Paul, don't bin this image as there are some really good positives, it just needs a bit of tweaking. You have some lovely light falling on the statue and I like the flowers in the foreground. The image does need straightening and the shadows require lifting. I have done this in my mod and also cropped left to place the statue on a third. I cropped some from the bottom to retain balance but left the flowers.
The exposure would not have been easy in this strong light but you have handled it well. If you shoot in RAW you can recover the shadow detail better and easier.
