An as-built photo from a major refurbishment we have undertaken at a waste water treatment works in Wakefield. I could probably have got away with a single shot but it would have meant exposing for the sky and recovering shadow detail. I think Oloneo HDR produces a more balanced shot under these circumstances and I would be interested to hear what others think.

If it looks like HDR, for me its not great, and this looks like HDR. The clouds for me are a give away

try it the hard way, - make 7 or more exposure 1/3 stop apart, combine into a 32bit HDR image (Photoshop Merge, - but I think you have another software?), the use a tone mapper to get it finished.

The problem with hdr software is that it is so easy to get carried away with the sliders, as I have done here. I am not sure I need to do it the "hard way" just do it better. All the bale shots I have uploaded recently are hdr so it would be interesting to hear what you think of those.
Thanks as always, Willie.

The hard way is the right way, all others are short cuts that dont allow you the vast control the correct approach allows.

Okay, I will try both methods and see how the results compare. I will have to use new shots though as I only have 3 exposures for each one.

The image actuallu looks quite good and would go in a magazine well. The obvious HDR problems are well controlled but I did know it was HDR from the thumbnail. So, this one is close, but HDR is a negotiable technique and I feel rarely fully suceeds. It does seem best for inside buildings.

Thanks Paul, my aim is really to make the shots look more natural so in that respect I haven't quite succeeded. I think the next one will be similar, we shall see. A bit of practice required to refine the technique.
Anyway the shots have gone down really well at work.

I find your comment on how the shots were seen at work interesting. That is what really matters. We are being all technical, but the image has fitted the brief, so it is a success. Some of my rolling mill interiors with burnt out highlights on hot steel are in glossy brochures, thus a success. Just shows that success can mean various things.

Excellent Industrial 'as-fitted' shot.

HDR is not my cup of tea outdoors, but here, for the purpose of the picture it does exactly what you want it to and with a little drama as well.
