My daughter in law had some pictures done by a new local professional. I use the word loosely. They were like this. I'm a bit old fashioned, and I appreciate you are trying to copy a style. It just looks over lit and over exposed to me. I would much prefer a correctly exposed, by my standards, shot because this looks potentially really very good.
Attractive shot, super composition, but, for me, grossly over exposed/lit. Purely a subjective comment.

hi paulbroad, thanks for your comments, i agree this is over exposed but it was fun getting there, and i quite like it, i prefer taking impromptu photos rather than posed for people, this is the original untouched photo, it was a cold day but she still had fun.
thanks
pete
Hi Peter. Thanks for uploading the original too.
Its not a bad effort at High Ket photography. Look up some tutorials both on this site, and Google to see techniques for a better result.
This for me is not bright enough for high key, and it has a pinkish tone to the face. So yes its overexposed, but its supposed to be, but you need to correct the colour cast, sharpen, and retrieve some details.
So lets start with the original, get that right, then try the high key.
The original is underexposed quite a bit. You might wonder why that matters if youre going to make it very bright anyway, - and the reason is colour accuracy, and sharpness, and a better outcome.
Ive applied a mod to the original, mod1, and then used this as a basis for the high key shot. Your shot has lost sharpness, and a little too much of important facial details. You can go a lot brighter, and still retain the essential elemenrs using a layer. I used an overall brightnedd boost using a curves adjustment, removed most of it from eyes, nose and mouth, and then applied a diffuse glow distortion filter, - again removing it from the same areas.
This result is mod2.
Hope this is helpful, and you like the mods, and see the thought process.
Regards
Willie
Hi there banehawi, thankyou for the mods, I must say the high key one is better than my own, I also like the b&w one, would it be possible for you to provide me with a more detailed description of the process, I am only a beginner with photoshop cs6, many thanks
Pete
